Representing speech sounds on paper

In order to represent pronunciation on paper, a system of symbols is necessary to indicate accurately the vowel, diphthong, and consonant sounds as well as the accent mark, or marks, and the division of the word into syllables.

Accurate speech through correct pronunciation of words

Correct pronunciation involves the application of all that has been said about the formation and production of the vowel, diphthong, and consonant sounds, plus the problem of accent or stress. Each speaker must be aware of the syllable or syllables of a word which he is to stress.

Point of View

As an aid to coherence, you should avoid unnecessary shifts in point of view.

What is Parallelism?

Balance noun with noun, adjective with adjective, prepositional phrase with prepositional phrase, infinitive phrase with infinitive phrase, gerund phrase with gerund phrase, dependent clause with dependent clause, independent clause with independent clause, and so on.

Clear and Logical Construction

Do not omit words that are necessary for clarity.
